Polian tabs Ricky Thomas as cornerbacks coach
Nevada head coach Brian Polian has hired Ricky Thomas as cornerbacks coach. Thomas, who was a four-year starter at safety at Alabama, is a veteran coach who spent 15 seasons in the NFL before joining the staff at Georgia State last year. Thomas coached the defensive line for Bill Curry at Georgia State in 2012. Prior to that, he spent 10 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, including eight as the tight ends coach. He previously spent five seasons with Tony Dungy in Tampa Bay, coaching the Buccaneers’ tight ends for three seasons and working with the running backs and specials for two years. Thomas’ hiring completes the Wolf Packs’s on-the-field staff.
Auburn hires Chip Lindsey in off-the-field role
Chip Lindsey has been hired by Gus Malzahn at Auburn in an off-the-field role. Lindsey has been head coach at Spain Park High School in Hoover, Ala. since 2010. He was previously quarterbacks coach at Troy for one season and head coach at Lassiter High in Marietta, Ga.
Weber State announces staff changes
Weber State coach Jody Sears officially named Robin Pflugrad as the Wildcat’s offensive coordinator. Sears has also promoted Steve Morton as the associate head coach and Eric Lewis as defensive coordinator. Both Morton and Lewis spent the 2012 season as assistant coaches at Weber State.
