[dropcap]S[/dropcap]MU head coach June Jones has announced that assistant coaches Joe Haering and Bob Palcic will not return for the 2013 season.
Haering’s contract expires in June while Palcic recently announced his retirement.
“I want to thank Joe and Bob for all their work for our program,” Jones said. “They were both valuable members of our staff and we wish them the best.”
Haering joined the SMU staff in 2009 after spending 12 seasons as a college scout with the Buffalo Bills. He was linebackers coach with the Atlanta Falcons from 1994-96.
Palcic just completed his first season as offensive line coach with the Mustangs.
SMU begins spring practice March 25.
Columbia names Chris Rippon defensive coordinator
Columbia head coach Pete Mangurian has named Chris Rippon secondary coach and defensive coordinator. Rippon spent the past three seasons as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Marshall. A 29-year coaching veteran, Rippon’s previous stints include special teams coach at Rutgers (2008) and defensive backs and special teams coach at Ole Miss (2005-07). Before that, he spent 12 seasons Syracuse (1993-2004) under Paul Pasqualoni in a variety of roles including defensive coordinator (1999-2003), special teams coordinator (2004, 1995-99), defensive ends (1994) and linebackers (1993) coach.
