Arizona star receiver Austin Hill suffers torn ACL
[dropcap]A[/dropcap]rizona wide receiver Austin Hill’s knee injury has been diagnosed as a torn ACL, according to the Tucson Citizen.
Hill, a junior, was a second-team All-Pac-12 performer last season. He caught 81 passes for 1,364 yards and tied a school record with 11 touchdowns.
“It just makes me sick, because he was such a great player. But he still will be,” Rich Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez said Hill will undergo surgery as soon as possible, and no timetable was given for Hill’s recovery. He redshirted as a freshman in 2010, and would lose this year of eligibility if he misses all of 2013.
“Man, it’s devastating, that’s for sure,” fellow junior Wildcat receiver Tyler Slavin said. “He had a lot going for him, and I know he had big plans of going to the NFL after this year. He had big things to do. Man, it just hurts.”
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Hill was on the Biletnikoff Award list year and was likely to receive pre-season All-America consideration.
Rodriguez has called wide receiver his team’s deepest position, but Hill’s loss is a major blow for a team who will be breaking in a new and still yet-to-be-determined starting quarterback in the fall.
