Some may have laughed at N.C. State recruiting assistant Drew Hughes’ “NC STATE NEEDS BALLERS. YOU = BALLER” recruiting pitch. But, if the photo posted by four-star linebacker prospect Michael Ferns to his Instagram account is an indication, some others are copying it. Mississippi State’s “You’re a Baller” execution is much more simple, but it remains to be seen whether or not the approach will be effective. In this particular case, Michigan (where Ferns is committed) probably doesn’t have too much to worry about — Ferns didn’t seem overly impressed, adding the caption: “Ummm … Thanks Coach.”
Florida assistant Joker Phillips made headlines recently when he put his Photoshop skills to use and tweeted a photo of Heath Ledger as the Joker wearing a Gator suit telling recruits “IT’S TIME TO COME PLAY WR FOR THE JOKER!” Today, Will Muschamp had a funny exchange regarding his social media prowess during his weekly press meeting. Muschamp told reporters that, while he may not be on the social media starting five, he’s definitely “on the team.”
Remember Randy Edsall’s Signing Day account of he and a Maryland assistant being chased by two mysterious trucks while trying to find the home of recruit Will Likely in Belle Glade, Fla.? Some are now calling the story into question, and local high school coaches aren’t happy at the image it portrayed of the area. Edsall, through to a Maryland spokesman, stands by his story, calling it “a random occurrence.”
The Oklahoman’s Berry Tramel says the Big 12 didn’t just miss the boat when it let Louisville get away to the ACC, it missed a barge.
