[dropcap]R[/dropcap]utgers has fired Tim Pernetti as athletic director, according to multiple media reports.

Pernetti’s firing follows the ouster of men’s basketball coach Mike Rice and the resignation of assistant Jimmy Martelli.

Rice was fired Wednesday after ESPN aired practice video (below) showing the former coach hurling basketballs at players, shoving them and berating them with gay slurs.

Pernetti has been roundly criticized Rice’s punishment before ESPN aired the video, which included a┬áthree-game suspension and $50,000 fine.
