ACC announces 2013 bowl lineup

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he ACC has announced eight guaranteed bowl slots next season and one additional conditional contract.

acc_logoThe league announced Monday that it’s bowl tie-ins for 2013 are the Military, Russell Athletic, Belk, Music City, AdvoCare V100, Sun, Chick-fil-A and Orange bowls.

It also has a conditional contract with the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl should the league have enough eligible teams.

The ACC champ, if not playing in the BCS National Championship Game, will play in the Discover Orange Bowl. The Orange Bowl has the first selection of teams which qualified for the BCS after the five conference champions or their replacements, have been slotted.

If two ACC teams are not selected for the BCS, the Chick-fil-A Bowl gets the next choice of ACC teams, followed by the Russell Athletic, Sun, Belk, Music City, AdvoCare V100 and Military.

This is likely the last year With the College Football Playoff beginning in 2014 and the Chick-fil-A Bowl becoming one of the new playoff system’s host bowls, the ACC bowl ties are headed for a shakeup.

A source tells ESPN that the ACC’s future bowl lineup is likely to include the New Era Pinstripe Bowl and a return to the Gator Bowl. The source also said the ACC is likely to maintain its partnerships with the Russell Athletic (formerly Champs Sports), Music City and Belk bowls.

The Belk Bowl, played in Charlotte, currently features an ACC team vs. a team from the American Athletic Conference, but would like to move to an ACC-SEC matchup in the future.
