[dropcap]C[/dropcap]incinnati’s Nippert Stadium will have a new state-of-the-art artificial surface for the Aug. 31 season football opener against Purdue.

nippertThe new turf will be UBU Sports’ Speed Series S5-M synthetic turf system, the same one used at Paul Brown Stadium, the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans, the Metrodome in Minneapolis, and slated to be installed into MetLife Stadium in New Jersey — home of Super Bowl XLVIII.

Workers began removing the old turf over the past week and expect to have the new surface fully installed by early August.

The field orientation will be shifted slightly north and west to even out the sideline areas and add a run-off area around the south endzone.

The estimated cost of the project is $600,000.
