Kentucky redshirt freshman lineman T.J. Jones dismissed

[dropcap]K[/dropcap]entucky redshirt freshman offensive lineman T.J. Jones has been kicked off the team.

jonesUK spokesman Tony Neely said that Jones had been dismissed for a “violation of team rules,” but did not elaborate. The 6-foot-6, 320-pound tackle would have been a redshirt freshman for the Wildcats this fall.

Jones, a 2-star recruit from Myrtle Beach (S.C.) High School in 2012, was arrested arrested Dec. 18 for allegedly bringing a gun on school property in his hometown.

According to reports, police investigated “a possible incident that occurred in the locker room” at Jones’ former high school that involved possible gun law violations.

It’s unclear whether or not the dismissal is related to the arrest. Stoops told reporters in January that planned to let the legal process run its course before deciding Jones’ fate. He participated in spring football practice in April.

Chuck Power, who helps Myrtle Beach players get recruited by colleges and connected Jones with UK’s previous coaching staff, told the Louisville Courier-Journal that he had spoken to Jones in May.

“He said everything was good. He was looking good, seemed OK,” Power said. “I thought those charges were dropped, so I don’t know what’s happened.”

Jones reportedly showed promised last fall and drew praise from former Wildcats offensive line coach Mike Summers.

He is ninth player to leave the UK program since Stoops arrived in Lexington, and the third to be dismissed.
