Georgia JUCO transfer DT Toby Johnson undergoes surgery
[dropcap]G[/dropcap]eorgia defensive lineman Toby Johnson had surgery in Athens on Tuesday, but don’t expect him to be down long.
The school did not specify Johnson’s injury but did say that it was not football related. Ron Courson, UGA’s Director of Sports Medicine, said a full recovery is expected in 10 days.
The 6-foot-4, 305-pound Johnson is an incoming transfer from Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College. He signed with the Bulldogs in February and arrived in Athens last month.
Last season, he suffered an injury to his right knee during Hutchinson’s Region 6 semifinal win over Coffeyville and missed the Blue Dragons’ final two post-season games.
Johnson was rated the nation’s No. 3 junior college defensive tackle and No. 8 JUCO prospect overall by Rivals.
He totaled 87 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss, five sacks, nine pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and two blocked kicks in two years at Hutchinson.
Johnson is originally from College Park (Ga.) Banneker.
