Trouble in Gainesville?

Trouble in Gainesville?

Near the end of November last year, life seemed like it couldn’t get much better for the Florida Gators.

Is there trouble ahead for Florida and head coach Will Muschamp?

Is there trouble ahead for Florida and head coach Will Muschamp?

Will Muschamp’s team was 11-1 in his second season as head coach, and the team needed just a Notre Dame loss to sneak into the BCS national championship game.

But fast forward 11 months and the picture isn’t nearly as rosy.

The Irish didn’t lose, and Florida settled for a Sugar Bowl date with Louisville, where they were thoroughly manhandled by the Cardinals. Now, seven games into Muschamp’s third season, UF sits at 4-3 and out of the top 25 after being thumped by Missouri on Saturday.

That sharp turn for the worse led USA Today columnist Dan Wolken to put the Gators atop his “Misery Index” this week, and Wolken says the present shouldn’t be the Gators biggest concern.

What should worry Florida fans the most at the moment isn’t just 2013 but rather what the picture looks like going forward. The Gators will lose some significant pieces off their defense next season, and where is the quarterback to lead their offense out of mediocrity? Do you see it? We don’t.

Is Wolken right? Do you think Florida fans have even scarier times ahead?
