Wake Forest AD interviews Ball State's Pete Lembo
Wake Forest athletic director Ron Wellman flew to Muncie, Ind., on Wednesday evening, presumably to interview Ball State coach Pete Lembo.
According to the Muncie Star Press, Wake officials notified the Delaware County Airport that Wellman was flying to Muncie on a private aircraft. He arrived at 9:15 p.m. and a car was delivered to him from Enterprise Rent A Car.
Neither Ball State athletic director Bill Scholl nor Lembo would comment on the matter.
The Wake Forest job came open Monday when Jim Grobe resigned following a 13 seasons.
Wellman said this week that he is looking looking for a replacement with head coaching experience, a record of success and experience at a private institution with higher academic standards. Lembo, who previously coached at Lehigh and Elon, is considered the leading candidate for the job.
Lembo is under contract through 2015, and has a buyout is $396,000.
Grobe earned $2,251,635 last season.
