UPDATE: Jim Bridge has been hired at Purdue. The deal was finalized Monday evening and he met the other members of the Purdue staff Tuesday afternoon, as tweeted by Boilermakers running backs coach Jafar Williams:

 

[dropcap]L[/dropcap]ess than six weeks after becoming offensive line coach at Illinois, it looks like Jim Bridge is leaving for another Big Ten school.

Bridge, who spent the past six seasons at N.C. State before joining Tim Beckman’s staff in late January, is expected to become the offensive line coach at Purdue. A deal may have even been completed Monday night, according to a source.

He would replace Jim Bollman, who left to become co-offensive coordinator at Michigan State.

At N.C. State, Bridge coached tight ends there from 2007-10 and moved to the offensive line in 2011-12 when Tom O’Brien was dismissed.

He followed O’Brien from Boston College, where he coached tight ends from 2003-06.

[dropcap]P[/dropcap]urdue has officially announced Rubin Carter as defensive line coach.

Carter joins Darrell Hazell’s staff after spending last year a Towson. Before that, he spent three seasons as defensive line coach at New Mexico (2009-11).

A former NFL player and coach, Carter also spent three seasons as the head coach at Florida A&M from 2005-07.

“I love what coach Carter brings to Purdue,” Hazell said. “He is a 12-year NFL veteran with over 25 years of coaching experience on all different levels. He has been a head coach, spent seven years with three NFL teams and coached on the college and high school levels. He is a great man that our players will learn a tremendous amount from both on and off the field.”

Carter’s other stops as a collegiate assistant include Temple (2004-05), Maryland (1997-98), San Jose State (1995-96) and Howard (1989-93). In the pros, he served as defensive line coach with the Denver Broncos (1987-88), Washington Redskins (1999-2000) and New York Jets (2001-03).

Carter played nose tackle at Miami (Fla.) in the early 70′s and was named All-American in 1974. He was a member of two Super Bowls teams with the Broncos during a 12-year professional career.

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]ichigan State head coach Mark Dantonio will name Jim Bollman as the Spartans’ offensive coordinator, according to a source.

Bollman was named offensive line coach on Darrell Hazell’s staff at Purdue in January. He was offensive line coach and running game coordinator at Boston College in 2012 after spending 11 years at Ohio State as offensive coordinator and line coach.

He will replace Dan Roushar, who left for the New Orleans Saints.

Bollman and Dantonio worked alongside one another from 2001-03 when Dantonio was defensive coordinator at Ohio State. Those three Buckeye teams went 31-7, including a 13-0 season and a BCS National Championship in 2002.

Chris Naeole to join Hawaii staff

Chris Naeole, a former All-American at Colorado and an 11-year NFL vet, will join Norm Chow’s staff at Hawaii.  An opening was created with Tommy Lee’s retirement as offensive coordinator in December. Chow said there will be an “adjustment” to the coaching staff, and assignments on offense still are to be determined. Naeole spent the past two years coaching at Iolani High School in Honolulu.


Purdue announces Gerad Parker hire

Purdue’s Darrell Hazell has officially announced the hiring of tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Gerad Parker. Parker was previously wide receivers coach at Marshall. Parker spent the past two seasons at Marshall. Before that, he spent three seasons at UT-Martin as the Skyhawks’ passing game coordinator, recruiting coordinator, wide receivers and running backs coach. He began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant at Kentucky, his alma mater.


Matt Mattox hired at Eastern Illinois

Matt Mattox has joined Dino Babers‘ staff at Eastern Illinois as offensive line coach. Mattox has six years experience as an offensive line and tight ends coach in the junior college ranks. Last year, he was offensive coordinator at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College, and before that, Mattox spent five seasons as the offensive line/tight ends coach at Butler (Kan.) C.C.

[dropcap]W[/dropcap]ith two more hires to make, new Purdue coach Darrell Hazell has approximately $400,000 left of a $2.1 million pool for assistant coaches.

Hazell has hired seven coaches and used $1.7 million of the $2.1 million available, according to Mike Carmin of the Lafayette Courier and Journal. The two spots left to fill are defensive line and tight ends/special teams coordinator.
