UPDATE: Jim Bridge has been hired at Purdue. The deal was finalized Monday evening and he met the other members of the Purdue staff Tuesday afternoon, as tweeted by Boilermakers running backs coach Jafar Williams:

[dropcap]L[/dropcap]ess than six weeks after becoming offensive line coach at Illinois, it looks like Jim Bridge is leaving for another Big Ten school.

Bridge, who spent the past six seasons at N.C. State before joining Tim Beckman’s staff in late January, is expected to become the offensive line coach at Purdue. A deal may have even been completed Monday night, according to a source.

He would replace Jim Bollman, who left to become co-offensive coordinator at Michigan State.

At N.C. State, Bridge coached tight ends there from 2007-10 and moved to the offensive line in 2011-12 when Tom O’Brien was dismissed.

He followed O’Brien from Boston College, where he coached tight ends from 2003-06.

Fun with Photoshop: Jim Bridge

jim_bridgeBy all accounts, Jim Bridge is one of the nicest guys in the coaching world.

Bridge, who coached under Tom O’Brien at Boston College and later at N.C. State, was announced Wednesday as Tim Beckman’s new offensive line coach at Illinois.

Even though he’s a heckuva nice guy, Bridge, like all of us in the coaching profession, has to raise his voice from time to time. Unfortunately for Bridge, a photographer happened to catch him “in the act.”

The picture became quite popular with the Wolfpack faithful over at the Backing the Pack Blog, and, naturally, the readers there dusted off their copies of Photoshop and created some first rate humor.

In honor of Bridge’s new gig, we’ve posted a few of our favorites below. You can see all of their creations in the aptly titled thread “Bridge Over the River Awesome.”

Jim Bridge will be the new offensive line coach at Illinois.

Bridge has been at N.C. State the past six seasons. He coached tight ends there from 2007-10 and moved to the offensive line in 2011-12 when Tom O’Brien was dismissed. Bridge followed O’Brien from Boston College, where he coached tight ends from 2003-06.

Bridge coached with Illinois head coach Tim Beckman on Urban Meyer’s staff at Bowling Green in 2000, as Bridge coached tight ends and Beckman served as defensive coordinator. He replaces Luke Butkus, who left the Illini for Florida International after just one season. Bridge joins an offensive staff now led by coordinator Bill Cubit, who replaced the ousted Chris Beatty.

“Illinois is a great fit for me, personally, and Coach Beckman has assembled an outstanding staff,” Bridge said in a prepared statement. “As a coach, you always look forward to competing in a premier conference like the Big Ten and at one of the nation’s great academic institutions such as the University Illinois.

“I can’t wait to get started with the members of our team and especially our offensive linemen.”
