Appalachian State head coach Scott Satterfield has announced that Dwayne Ledford, who is in his second year as App State University’s offensive line coach, and Frank Ponce, a longtime assistant at Florida International University, will serve as the Moutaineers’ co-offensive coordinators. … Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich has hired former Arizona Cardinals defensive line coach Ron Aiken to coach the same position for the Ducks. Aiken replaces Jerry Azzinaro, who left Oregon to join former Ducks coach Chip Kelly with the Philadelphia Eagles. Aiken spent the past six seasons with the Cardinals. He coached the defensive line at Iowa for eight season (1999-2006) and spent one year as linebackers coach at San Diego State in 1998. Aiken also had stints as a defensive assistant at Texas (1997), Vanderbilt (1995-96), and New Mexico (1991-94). … Also at Oregon, Helfrich has officially announced Scott Frost offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. This has been speculated since Helfrich was hired, but Helfrich waited until after Duke’s Matt Lubick was hired as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator (which happened on Monday) to make the announcement. Frost, the former Nebraska quarterback, has served as the Ducks wide receivers coach since 2009. Frost broke into coaching as a graduate assistant at Nebraska in 2002 before filling the same role at Kansas State in 2006. He then spent two years Northern Iowa in 2007 before joining the Oregon staff.
[dropcap]O[/dropcap]regon head coach Mark Helfrich has officially announced Duke assistant Matt Lubick as the Duck’s wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator.
Lubick spent the past three years with the Blue Devils as wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator. In 2012, two Blue Devil receivers – Jamison Crowder and Conner Vernon – earned All-ACC honors and had record-setting campaigns. As a result, Lubick was one of three finalists for the AFCA Assistant Coach of the Year award and a Broyles Award nominee.
“Matt Lubick exemplifies exactly what it means to be a mentor in every sense of the word,” Duke head coach David Cutcliffe has said. Cutcliffe called Lubick “simply the best recruiter that I’ve ever worked with.”
Prior to his stint at Duke, Lubick spent three seasons at Arizona State (2007-09) where he served as assistant head coach, recruiting coordinator, and safeties coach. He is credited with signing Vontaze Burfict, the highest-rated prospect in Arizona State football history. Rivals.com named Lubick on of the top-10 recruiters in the Pac-10 each of his three seasons with the Sun Devils.
Lubick coached two seasons at Ole Miss (2005-06), coaching the wide receivers. He was responsible for signing Rebel standout Dexter McClusker while on staff in Oxford. McClusker was the first player in SEC history to total over 1,000 rushing yards and over 500 receiving yards in the same season.
Lubick got his start in coaching as a student assistant for his father, legendary Colorado State head coach Sonny Lubick. After graduating from Colorado State, Lubick joined the staff at Cal State-Northridge in 1997 before moving to San Jose State for two seasons (1997-98).
Lubick coached defensive backs and was co-recruiting coordinator at Oregon State in 1999-2000 before returning to Colorado State where he coached wide receivers for four seasons (2001-04).
